Powerful earthquake strikes near Solomon Islands
A magnitude 8.0 undersea earthquake near the Solomon Islands led the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre to issue tsunami alerts for a host of countries although they have since ended with the threat passing.
Several waves measuring more than 5m struck Lata Wharf in the Santa Cruz islands, part of the Solomon Islands causing damage to around 50 homes.
The earthquake was 5.8km deep with the epicentre 347km
