Postbox: Training rules

letter

I read Patrick O'Connell of Oval recently on the role of qualifications in promoting greater professionalism in our industry.

While I endorse his view that examinations and the professional qualifications to which they lead are important, I think there's a danger we are losing sight of the importance of planned regular training.

A successful insurance career in the 21st century will surely demand being professional in everything you do — and the CII's Aldermanbury Declaration is a significant landmark in this context. That includes keeping up to date with the latest thinking on technical insurance and regulatory issues — but also on management and personal development.
