Kennedys creates Irish operation with merger

International litigation and dispute resolution firm, Kennedys has opened its ninth international office in Dublin.
Kennedys is merging with long-standing Dublin associate, O’Hare O’Connor Walshe.
The operation will offer expertise within professional indemnity, employer’s and public liability work.
OHOCW already shares several major client relationships with Kennedys’ offices in England and Northern Ireland, the law firm said.
Kennedys Ireland initially will comprise seven partners: James Staines, Michael Walshe, Peter McShane, Philip O’Connor and Nina Gaston with Rachel Lee and lateral hire, Ian Crotty.
Senior Partner, Nick Thomas commented: “The decision to take our successful relationship with OHOCW forward by establishing Kennedys Ireland at this time was driven by very clear client demands for a stronger, market-transforming presence in Dublin. It gives me great pleasure to welcome the new partners and their teams.”
Kennedys Ireland senior partner, James Staines said: “The Irish market for professional indemnity is poised for major changes due to the winding-down of the Solicitors Mutual Defence Fund and other regulatory changes. This is the perfect time to be teaming up with such a fantastic insurance market player. We’ve got to know each other well over the many years our firms have worked in association and look forward to combining our strengths to tackle the opportunities and challenges in the years ahead.”
