Apprenticeships: A radical overhaul

The radical overhaul by the government of the apprenticeship scheme - with the core aim of creating three million new apprentices by 2020 - is set to have a major impact on recruitment and training in the insurance industry, potentially reaching far beyond expanded opportunities for 16 to 19-year-olds.

For large employers - those with payrolls of over £3m - participation in the scheme through the new apprenticeship levy is compulsory (see box, below) and most see it as a positive move.
