Widespread media coverage may give the impression tornadoes only occur in the US. This is not the case, with the high-speed weather phenomenon threatening destruction around the world

In peak years, tornadoes are almost as large a cause of insurance claims in the US as hurricanes. On average, the country experiences 1200 tornadoes every year, which kill up to 60 people, injure 1500
