Claims Club member: Duncan Hockley
Dip CII qualified Duncan Hockey began working in the insurance industry in 1984, and has taken up a variety of claims roles throughout that time.
Hockley's first insurance role was working for General Accident (which subsequently merged with Aviva), where he handled a cross-section of material damage and liability claims, involving everything from equine and livestock to nuclear power stations during his five year stint at the company.
But for the last 28-years has worked in insurance broker claims units, including nine years at Minet Insurance Brokers, where he was an associate director. Following the takeover of Minet by Aon Risk Services, Hockley was responsible for the merger of four different claims operations at Aon's Redhill office, and the day-to-day management of a team of 20 staff.
Hockley left Aon Risk Services to join HW Wood in March 2000. During his time at the company, Hockley has developed the claims department and overseen the changes following the company's accreditation as a Lloyd's broker.
According to Hockley, his greatest acheivement of 2016 was maintaining customer service within the claims operation despite key staff being promoted to roles in other departments within the company and one team member being on long term leave for health reasons. Without additional resources, the department has also taken over the claims handling of a number of significant new clients, including one that is regularly in the financial press following acquisitions of companies employing thousands of people.
