Stuart Clarke is head of technical claims at Hiscox Uk and Ireland.

Clarke began his insurance career at the Dominion Insurance Company.

In 1985 was he was promoted to Midland regional claims controller and in 1992 came to London after being promoted to assistant UK commercial claims manager.

Clarke, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree in law, is FCII qualified and a Chartered insurer, joined Hiscox in 1997. After completing his FCII exams in 1992, he became an examinations editor and item writer with the Objective Testing Team at the Chartered Insurance Institute and have had an annual contract since then.

Clarke was a founder member of the professional indemnity market group, CAP which battled to promote alternative dispute resolution in the claims market. CAP was the vehicle for the professional indemnity insurance market to engage in dialogue with the Ministry of Justice leading to Clarke being a co-author of the Professional Indemnity Protocol.

As part of CAP, Clarke later chaired the professional indemnity response to Rupert Jackson's reform of Civil Litigation; and he continues to work with the market, and with the support of the ABI the group continues to challenge attacks relating to changes in the protocols by the Claimant Solicitors Professional Body and presented its views last year to a Ministry of Justice Committee chaired by Mr Justice Ramsey.

Clarke is currently the Hiscox representative sitting on British Insurance Brokers Claims Technical Committee and the ELTO board approved his nomination to sit on ELTO Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP). He also chairs the Insurance Institute of London's Qualification Mentoring Committee and is an elected Member of the London Insurance Institute's Counsel.

According to Clarke, his greatest acheivement in 2016 was becoming the chair of and developing the CII London Institutes Mentoring programme.
